Our History & Mission
The Hey Lollies Square Dance Club began on April 8, 1965, when Harry Adamson, a minister at Memorial Drive Presbyterian Church (MDPC), recognized the importance of creating opportunities for married couples to enjoy fellowship and fun together. With Jack and Betty Smith leading the effort and Nort Robinson serving as the club’s first caller, square dancing became the perfect way to bring people together—and the Hey Lollies were born.
What started as a church-based activity quickly grew into a welcoming community. The club first expanded its membership to include married couples beyond the church, and in 2023, its bylaws were updated to welcome single members, reflecting the club’s continued tradition of welcoming new friends.

Hey Lollies is a Family
I think the heart of this club that has helped it to be vital for
so long is simple. Acceptance of each other with
thoughtfulness, patience and love.
That is the family way and Hey Lollies are family.

A life changing night
The benefits of square dancing are real: it’s great exercise for both the mind and body, but the greatest benefit is the people you meet.
When you are invited to a fun night, what you have to lose is one night, but what you have to gain will be one of the
best decisions you have ever made.

What would we tell someone considering square dancing? Do it!
Those nine months of lessons aren’t work—
they’re FUN! You’ll be so glad you took the leap. Square dancing opens the door to so many new friendships, new experiences, and adventures we never would have imagined when we walked into that first Fun Night.
